ONEIDA INDIAN BURDEN STRAP - FIBER ENDS
Oneida Indian burden strap as worn over forehead with traveling packs tied to the ends and carried over the back, as used by traders and voyagers. This one has red dyed material with fiber end ties. The original collection tag (attached) states “Appears to be Buffalo Hair”. One fiber end is partly missing and getting fragile of loosing more where darkened. The strap is 2” wide x 28” long without the ties. The ties are 27” and 10” long as is. The strap is from the collection of Roy Robinson, and his tag states he acquired it 3-20-25, and it was old then, out of N.Y. state. It is scarce, and in exc. condition, other than the condition of one tie shortened by braking with loss from use over the years. circa. 1820-1850. $1,250.
